With a panel discussion of anthropologists (Uni Bayreuth) and activists (Together we are Bremen) on their joint research project.
We cordially invite you to the launch of our website born-twice.de on June 28 at 6.30 pm, at the Lichtburgforum, Behmstraße 13, Berlin.
Why and how does the eighteenth birthday make such a huge difference in the lives of migrants in Germany? What happens if Black German children do not receive a birth certificate? And how do these existential issues and contemporary inequalities hang together with colonial and racist structures of power?
On born-twice.de, we present the unaltered stories, interpretations and visions from refugees in their original spoken and written form. We collected and analyzed them in our collaborative work as refugee activists and citizen anthropologists. Our goal is to challenge age determinations and the denial of birth certificates: No one can be born twice!
Come to the Berlin launch of our website on June 28. We – our team of activists (Together We Are Bremen) and anthropologists (University of Bayreuth) – will talk about the research process and the results of the research.
Especially in the current restrictive debates and regulations, it is important to show how restrictive the asylum system already is and how resistance against it can be successful.
Please register by sending a short message to born-twice@uni-bayreuth.de .
We look forward to seeing you. Hope to see you soon,
Gift Terhemen, Fatoumata Cham, Katharina Schramm, Omar Janneh, Sabine Netz and Siaka Konteh from the Born Twice Collective
